Penelope was my aunt. She died very peacefully and unexpectedly in June 2006, aged 90.
For her age she had been in good health, very fit and thoroughly independent. She was a convert to Roman Catholicism, and her faith was absolutely central to her life. She had robust views about a number of subjects, and visits to her were always interesting. She never married.
I suppose these images are about possessions signifying the person. Over the four months it took to sort out her affairs and dispose of her belongings, I recorded the changes. As the minutiae of her life were gradually removed from her flat, her presence also gradually faded.
I miss her.
